What does “self‑catering" mean?

Self‑catering in a private accommodation means that you, as a guest, rent your own standalone living space on the farm. It may be a cottage located a bit away from the owner’s home, a guesthouse on the farm, an annex, or an apartment connected to another building. The exact location and layout are described in each farm’s presentation. Regardless of where it is situated, this type of accommodation is always equipped for independent living: a kitchen, bathroom, bedroom, living area and usually an outdoor seating area. Please bring your own bed linen and towels.
Your host will give you privacy, but is always available if you have questions. Enjoy the freedom of having your own holiday home while staying close to farm life.

What does Bed & Breakfast mean?

A B&B, or bed and breakfast, is exactly what it sounds like: you stay in a comfortable room for the night and enjoy a generous country breakfast in the morning. The room may be located in the main farmhouse or in one of the farm’s other buildings. Bed linen, towels and final cleaning are included in the price.
Most of our B&Bs are equipped much like small rural hotels, with bathroom essentials such as soap, shampoo and a hairdryer. Check the farm’s description for details, or ask your host if you’re unsure.
Many of our B&Bs also offer shared common areas — something families and guests who want to experience daily farm life up close often appreciate.

What does Immersive Stay mean?

An immersive stay offers a holiday experience that feels different from everyday life. It may be a furnished glamping tent, a simple cabin or crofter’s cottage, or even a converted caravan. These accommodations may not have running water or electricity, and heating is often provided by a wood stove, tiled stove or open fireplace. Even so, we maintain high standards for fire safety, cleanliness and overall quality, and all interiors are smoke‑free.
Our sustainable immersive stays are popular with outdoor enthusiasts, hikers, cyclists and families who want to truly disconnect from a constantly connected lifestyle. It’s an adventure reminiscent of wilderness camping — but with a bit more comfort and the added connection to a farm or host family.

I’m camping with motorhome or tent. Do you offer pitches?

Some farms offer pitches for motorhomes, caravans or tent campers — but not all. You can search for farms with designated pitches at www.farmstaysweden.com/farms/ or ask the host when making your booking enquiry.
Make sure to check the specific conditions at the farm you plan to visit, such as permitted stay times, access to electricity and water, and what services are available nearby.

What does 'Sustainable Farm' mean?

Since 2019, Farmstay Sweden has been working to implement a set of sustainability requirements across all member farms. This is our contribution to the UN 2030 Agenda and helps guests make informed choices when looking for sustainable holidays and farm experiences.
The project was launched with support from the Swedish Board of Agriculture and the European Agricultural Fund, and reached an important milestone in 2023.
Since then, all our member farms have been fully certified as Sustainable Farms – “Hållbar Gård”.
This certification shows that the accommodation meets sustainability standards in several key areas, including waste management, energy use, food, staff, local community engagement, water, and environmentally safe cleaning and chemical use.

What does the number of sheaves mean?

To be part of the Farmstay Sweden brand, every accommodation must undergo a quality inspection. There are a number of basic requirements that each farm and host must meet in order to become a member. The purpose of this classification is to help you, as a guest, understand the level of service and standard you can expect.
We indicate the accommodation standard with 1 to 5 sheaves:
1 sheaf means the basic requirements are met
5 sheaves represents first‑class standard — comparable to a hotel.
A certified farm displays a sign with the association’s logo and the farm’s name clearly visible.

How does the booking process work?

Each Farmstay Sweden member farm has its own presentation page with a ‘Booking enquiry’ button. Once you’ve found a farm you like on www.farmstaysweden.com/farms/ or via the homepage, simply open the farm’s page, read more about the accommodation, and click the booking enquiry button.
This puts you in direct contact with the host, who will reply shortly regarding your preferred dates, number of guests, price and any individual needs.
The booking only becomes binding once you and the host have agreed and the host has sent a confirmation.
